Sefako Makgatho Health Sciences University (SMU) is a public institution in Ga-Rankuwa, Gauteng Province, South Africa, dedicated to health sciences education. Established on January 1, 2015, it evolved from the former Medical University of South Africa (MEDUNSA) and the MEDUNSA campus of the University of Limpopo. The university is named after Sefako Makgatho, a prominent South African leader and the second president of the African National Congress.
