St Dominic’s Academy Newcastle is an independent, co-educational school in Newcastle, in northern KwaZulu-Natal, set on a stunning campus on Murchison Street. Rooted in a Christian ethos drawn from its Dominican Catholic heritage, it has in recent years become part of the national Curro group as a Curro Select school. It offers a continuous education from as young as four months old, through its pre-primary, primary and high school phases, all the way to Grade 12, with boarding available from Grade 4 for learners who live further afield.

Teaching takes place in English, and the school follows the national CAPS curriculum through Curro’s project-based learning and self-discovery approach – encouraging research, experiments and assignments that take learning beyond the textbook while building critical-thinking and problem-solving skills. As an IEB school, it prepares learners for the internationally recognised IEB matric examination at the end of Grade 12, and the Curro Choice initiative gives access to additional subjects through live online lessons. Class sizes are kept small for individual attention, supported by after-school and one-on-one academic-support sessions.

Beyond academics, St Dominic’s balances learning with a wide range of sport and cultural activities – from choir and golf to open-water swimming – and offers aftercare, school transport and a warm, safe boarding home. Full fee and admissions details are available directly from the school.
