Yeshiva College

Yeshiva College (Yeshivat Beit Yitzchak) is South Africa’s first and largest Jewish Torah day school, situated in Glenhazel, Johannesburg. Established in 1951, it has grown into one of the largest Jewish schools in the southern hemisphere, with over 1,000 pupils and around 180 staff across five schools: a playschool, a pre-primary, a co-educational primary school (Grades 0 to 6), and separate boys’ and girls’ high schools (Grades 7 to 12), serving children from age 3 to 18.

The school follows a Religious Zionist and Modern Orthodox philosophy, with a deep commitment to Torah, the Jewish people and the State of Israel at the heart of its ethos. Pupils study a distinctive dual curriculum – devoting around 30% of the day to Limudei Kodesh (Jewish and Torah studies) alongside a full General Studies programme – and ultimately write the IEB National Senior Certificate. The teaching staff includes Rabbanim and seminary graduates from Israel, the United States and South Africa, and the school retains a close association with the Bnei Akiva youth movement.

Academically Yeshiva College is consistently strong, with a 100% matric pass rate, 100% university entrance and a high distinction average. Its warm, energetic culture emphasises the development of the whole child, nurturing individuality and leadership. Sport is central to the curriculum, with the school competing successfully across many codes, alongside a full cultural and community programme.
