Orban School
Orban School is a small, independent, Christian-based pre-primary and primary school nestled in the Melville Koppies in Johannesburg, serving families from Melville, Northcliff, Auckland Park, Westdene and the surrounding suburbs. Co-educational and dual-medium, it teaches in both English and Afrikaans (one English and one dual-medium class per grade) and caters for children from around age one through the end of primary school.
The school’s ethos – captured in its “Learn to Live” philosophy – is holistic and family-like, built on nurture, respect, acceptance and belonging, with every learner valued as a unique individual. Small classes allow close teacher attention and strong relationships between staff, pupils and parents.
Orban is especially known for the creative arts, with a distinctive focus on music, art and drama; the school has been recognised by the National Eisteddfod for best overall achievement among Johannesburg-region schools several years running. Academically it blends a solid foundational curriculum with modern, creative teaching methods – including STEAM, the Six Bricks approach and Google Classroom for digital learning – aiming to give pupils a strong springboard into the leading high schools.
Set on a green, secure campus, Orban offers a balanced programme of academics, sport and culture within a caring community. Fees are kept relatively affordable for an independent school, and details on fees and admissions are available directly from the school.
