Abbotts College Cape Town
Abbotts College Cape Town (Abbotts High School Rondebosch) is an independent, alternative private high school in Belmont Office Park, Belmont Road, Rondebosch, and part of ADvTECH – one of Africa’s leading private education groups. Catering for students from Grade 8 to Grade 12, it is one of five Abbotts campuses across South Africa and relocated to its current, modern facilities in 2021. With around 50 years of history, Abbotts has built its reputation on a distinctive, student-centred model focused on academic improvement and helping young people reach their full potential.
Abbotts describes itself as an “alternative” school: it nurtures each student’s individuality, embraces diversity, self-expression and freedom of choice, and treats its students as young adults to build character, accountability and responsibility. In keeping with this ethos, it is one of the few Cape Town high schools with no uniform policy, giving students the freedom to express themselves every day. Since 2023 the College has offered the Independent Examinations Board (IEB) curriculum, valued for its academic rigour, emphasis on critical thinking and inquiry-based learning, and global recognition – contributing to strong IEB results across the group.
The academic model is built around flexibility, personalisation and support, with a wide range of subjects, effective intervention and assessment programmes, and a focus on incremental improvement for students across the full ability spectrum. Alongside academics, students enjoy club sports and extracurricular activities, inter-campus sports days, cultural evenings, a matric dance, awards evenings and a Grade 12 Graduation, guided by a signed Code of Conduct. Full fee and admissions details are available directly from the school.
