Saint Stithians College
Saint Stithians College (“Saints”) is one of South Africa’s leading independent Methodist schools, set on a beautiful 105-hectare estate – one of the largest school campuses in the country – on the border of Sandton and Randburg in Johannesburg. Founded in 1953, it follows a distinctive co-ordinate model: a “village” of schools comprising a co-educational Junior Preparatory (Grade R to 2), separate Boys’ and Girls’ Preparatory Schools (Grade 3 to 7), separate Boys’ and Girls’ Colleges (Grade 8 to 12), the Kamoka Bush School, and the Thandulwazi Maths, Science and Technology Academy. Boys and girls are taught separately from Grade 3 but share a campus and many activities.
The school’s Methodist ethos is lived through its Honour Code – “Honour God, Honour Others, Honour Self” – and its statement of intent, “Inspiring Excellence, Making a World of Difference.” Boarding is offered at the Boys’ College.
Academically, the colleges write the IEB National Senior Certificate and perform consistently among the country’s best, with 100% matric passes and around 96 to 98% of matriculants achieving Bachelor-degree passes for entry to universities in South Africa and abroad. Teaching emphasises inquiry, explicit thinking and differentiated learning.
Saints is renowned for sport, hosting the annual Saints Sports Festival – the largest and longest-running school sports festival in the world – and offers all the major codes with excellent facilities and coaching, alongside a rich cultural and performing-arts calendar and a strong community-service focus, notably the Thandulwazi Saturday school for learners from under-resourced schools. Notable alumni include several Proteas cricketers and professional sportspeople.
The eco-conscious campus houses a chapel, extensive learning and sporting facilities and varied natural landscapes. Fees vary by school and by day or boarding option, and full fee and admissions details are available from the College.
