Cannons Creek Independent School
Cannons Creek Independent School is a leading independent, co-educational community school with a Christian ethos in the leafy suburb of Pinelands, in Cape Town’s southern suburbs. Founded in 1997 by a group of dedicated teachers and parents – starting with just 37 pupils – it has grown into a well-regarded “one school” that takes children all the way from Grade RR to Matric across its Primary and High School phases, welcoming boys and girls of all faiths and backgrounds.
Cannons Creek is built around a warm, whole-school “family” approach in which pupils transition smoothly through the phases and the whole community shares common goals and events. Deliberately small classes – a maximum of 16 in the Primary School and 20 in the High School, with two classes per grade – allow genuine individual attention. Teaching is child-centred and focused on real-world application, critical thinking and a growth mindset, building a strong foundation in core subjects, and pupils write the National Senior Certificate at the end of Grade 12. The school has an excellent academic record, repeatedly recognised as one of the top small schools in the Western Cape – including first place among small schools in the province for the 2023 NSC exams.
Beyond the classroom, Cannons Creek values holistic development through sport (with weekly PE and afternoon sport), a Cultural Centre supporting music and the arts, and outings, camps and Adventure Weeks that build resilience and friendship.
Recent fees are around R70,000 to R98,000 a year; full fee and admissions details are available directly from the school.
