Constantia Waldorf School
Constantia Waldorf School is an independent, co-educational Waldorf (Steiner) school set across seven hectares of green space in Constantia, Cape Town. Founded in 1959, it is the oldest Waldorf school in Africa and part of a worldwide community of more than 1,200 Waldorf schools – one of the fastest-growing independent educational movements globally. It educates around 400 children, from Toddler Group, Playgroup and Kindergarten right through to Matric (ages 3 to 18), in a multi-faith environment.
At the heart of the school is the Waldorf curriculum, which seeks to nurture each child’s unique individuality while developing healthy social responsibility. In the early years, imaginative play and the rhythm of nature build school readiness and confidence; in the Primary School, academic subjects are brought to life through storytelling, art, music and hands-on exploration. Teaching is treated as an art, with lessons composed to include movement, storytelling, drawing and handwork, and academics deliberately balanced with creative, social, practical and cultural development. The aim is to raise self-directed learners through guided discovery and independent thinking, producing well-rounded young people with a lifelong love of learning.
The school’s leafy campus allows children to form a deep connection to the natural world, and its warm, inclusive ethos has long welcomed a diverse range of learners. Recent fees range from roughly R60,000 to R122,000 a year depending on age; full fee and admissions details are available directly from the school.
