Springfield Convent School is a leading independent Catholic school for girls in Wynberg, Cape Town, with almost 150 years of cherished history. It was founded in 1871 when six Dominican Sisters left Ireland to establish a girls’ school in Cape Town, purchasing the beautiful Springfield estate – then considered “the countryside” – in Wynberg. Today the school educates girls from Nursery (Grade 000) to Grade 12, welcoming pupils of all faiths and backgrounds.

Rooted in its Dominican heritage, Springfield values the uniqueness and importance of every person and looks upon education as an integrated whole – nurturing each girl spiritually, intellectually, physically and socially so that she can take her place in society with confidence and a strong social conscience. Its ethos resonates with academic excellence, spiritual awareness, physical well-being and social generosity. The school has a proud record of being ahead of its time: it was among the first to offer Matric and sport to young women, and in 1976 was at the forefront of schools opening their doors to children of all races.

Pupils are prepared for the National Senior Certificate, supported by dedicated teachers and a warm, family atmosphere. Beyond academics, co-curricular life is vibrant, spanning a wide range of sport and a rich cultural programme – from choir, orchestra, speech and drama to chess, pottery, Celtic dancing, outreach and a Xhosa Culture Club.

Set on its spacious, historic Wynberg campus, Springfield’s recent fees are in the region of R75,000 to R108,000 a year; full fee and admissions details are available directly from the school.
