Star College Durban is an independent, English-medium school in Westville North, Durban, established by the Horizon Educational Trust – part of a national network that also includes Star Colleges in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Cape Town and Bridgetown. It educates learners from Grade RR to Grade 12 across a pre-primary, a primary school, and separate Boys’ and Girls’ High Schools on its Kinloch Avenue campus.

The school follows the national Department of Basic Education curriculum, with learners writing the National Senior Certificate, and is known above all for academic strength – producing excellent matric results with a particular emphasis on Mathematics, Science and Computer studies. From Grade 8 onwards, students are encouraged to compete in national and international Olympiads, with selected learners sent abroad to represent the school, and the intermediate phase introduces pupils to science fairs and Olympiads to spark early interest.

Teaching takes place in English (other than additional languages), and smaller classes allow for individual, personalised attention that supports both high academic standards and good behaviour. Senior subjects are chosen specifically for university preparation, so that each student can play to his or her strengths. The school goes to considerable lengths to help every learner succeed, offering free Saturday tuition and numerous extra classes alongside a programme of sport and cultural activities. Full fee and admissions details are available directly from the school.
