CBC St John's
CBC St John’s is an independent Catholic, co-educational school in Parklands, on Cape Town’s Western Seaboard, educating children from age 2 through to Matric. As a Christian Brothers’ College in the Edmund Rice tradition, it traces its inspiration to Blessed Edmund Rice, who founded the Congregation of Christian Brothers in Ireland to educate children in need – a mission the Brothers have carried out for nearly 200 years across some 250 schools worldwide. The school spans a pre-school, primary phase and a senior school (the “Saints Among Us”, Grades 7 to 12).
The school’s aim is to provide an enriched, holistic education based on Gospel values, in an environment where Faith, Family, Excellence and Diversity are celebrated and the spirituality of each person is nurtured. Catholic traditions run through campus life – with regular masses, morning devotions and class prayers – while pupils of all backgrounds are warmly welcomed. Academically, students are guided towards the National Senior Certificate, supported by high standards and a values-based approach; discipline is built on restorative-justice principles that help young people take responsibility and restore relationships rather than simply be punished.
As a member of the global Edmund Rice Network, students form connections with Christian Brothers’ schools around the world, including through the annual inter-CBC Winter Games. A diverse extra-curricular programme of sport, culture and spiritual activities helps each matriculant graduate as a well-rounded, compassionate individual. Recent fees range from around R41,000 to R104,000 a year; full fee and admissions details are available directly from the school.
