Deutsche Internationale Schule Kapstadt

The Deutsche Internationale Schule Kapstadt (DSK, German International School Cape Town) is a bilingual German international school in Tamboerskloof, Cape Town, with a satellite campus in Parow serving younger German-speaking pupils. One of the city’s oldest schools, it traces its origins to the German St Martini School founded in 1883, became the Deutsche Schule Kapstadt in 1961, opened its doors to pupils of all backgrounds in 1981, and added an English stream in 1987.

DSK offers two streams: a German stream from Grades 1 to 12 and an English stream from Grades 5 to 12, with non-German-speaking children welcomed from Grade 5 to learn German intensively and integrate into the high school. Around two-thirds of pupils are South African and a third come from German-speaking countries, creating a genuinely international, multicultural community. Teaching aims at German educational standards while meeting South African requirements, and the South African National Senior Certificate subjects are examined through the IEB (accredited by Umalusi).

In the high school, the school offers a distinctive dual-qualification pathway: under a treaty between the German and South African governments, German-stream learners can graduate with both the German International Abitur – accredited by the German Ministry of Education (KMK) and developed with partner schools in Pretoria, Johannesburg and Windhoek – and the South African NSC, opening doors to universities in South Africa, Germany and across Europe. Learners can also gain the Mittlere Reife and the German Language Diploma (DSD II).

School life is enriched by music and culture, the sciences and sport, with facilities including sports fields, a swimming pool and a boarding house. Means-tested financial assistance is available; full fee and admissions details are available directly from the school.
