St Teresa's School
St Teresa’s School is a well-respected independent Catholic school for girls in Rosebank, Johannesburg, offering a continuous journey from Grade 000 to Matric. It began in 1930 when three Sisters of Mercy welcomed their first five pupils to a garage in Keyes Avenue, and has grown – over more than 90 years – into a much-loved school of three sections: a Junior Primary in nearby Craighall Park, and a Senior Primary and High School sharing the lovely Keyes Avenue grounds. The school writes the IEB National Senior Certificate.
Still managed by the Sisters of Mercy and rooted in Christ’s teaching of love for God, self and others, St Teresa’s welcomes girls of all faiths and builds its ethos on the values of compassion, collaboration and global responsibility, alongside service, faith and integrity. It has a proud heritage of social conscience – it was one of the first schools in the country to defy apartheid laws and admit pupils of all races. Every girl becomes a “Rosie,” part of the Rosie family for life.
Academically the school is in the top bracket in Gauteng, consistently achieving a 100% IEB matric pass rate, supported by small classes, individual attention, an innovative modular system in the middle grades and academic support in every subject. Sport and culture are integral, with girls competing in the Independent Girls’ Schools League and Catholic Schools competitions across hockey, netball, swimming, tennis and athletics, alongside a rich programme of music, drama, debating and chess. Recent fees are in the region of R100,000 and up; full details are available from the school.
