Kingsmead College is a leading independent Christian school for girls, set on beautiful grounds in Melrose, Johannesburg, right beside the Gautrain’s Rosebank station. Founded in 1933 by Doris Vera Thompson, it educates around 850 girls from Grade 000 to Grade 12 across a Pre-School, Junior School and Senior School. Its motto, Franc ha Leal (“Free and Loyal”), and its watchword “Courage Always” capture an ethos of confidence, individuality and care for others.

Guided by a Christian ethos, with a chapel dedicated to St Brigid, Kingsmead is committed in equal measure to academics, sport, culture and community service, and is known as a warm, relatively small school where each girl is known personally. The Junior School is internationally recognised as an Advanced Thinking School – accredited by the University of Exeter in 2018, the first in South Africa – with a pedagogy built on Growth Mindset and explicit cognitive tools, while the Senior School offers a carefully tailored academic programme.

Academically, Kingsmead consistently produces results among the best in the country in the IEB National Senior Certificate, with old girls going on to leading universities in South Africa and abroad, including Oxford, Edinburgh and St Andrews. Co-curricular life is rich across a wide range of team and social sports, anchored by the school’s Sports Centre, alongside cultural activities and community outreach.

Set on attractive, secure grounds with modern teaching and sporting facilities, Kingsmead offers scholarships for girls who excel in academics, sport and culture. Full fee and admissions details are available directly from the school.
