Merrifield College
Merrifield College is a dynamic, independent, co-educational day school in Beacon Bay, East London, and the leading independent provider of pre-primary, preparatory and secondary education in the Buffalo City region of the Eastern Cape. It was founded in 1997 by a group of founding parents who envisioned a leading light in independent education for the province, and has grown from humble beginnings to more than 700 pupils across its Pre-Primary, Preparatory and College phases, educating children from Grade 000 to Grade 12 as a day school. Guided by its motto Astra Petentes (“Reach for the Stars”) and a Christian ethos, Merrifield is committed to helping each child realise their full potential.
Academically, Merrifield writes the IEB curriculum and has an outstanding record – a consistent 100% matric pass rate with over 90% of pupils achieving university exemption, backed by strong showings in national and international benchmark tests and Olympiads. Small classes, personal attention and teachers willing to offer extension and enrichment work beyond the curriculum lie at the heart of its success.
Beyond the classroom, the school is known for educating the whole child, balancing academics with a rich co-curricular programme spanning sport, culture, spirituality and community service – including active Eco Clubs and outreach initiatives that encourage pupils to become socially conscious “change-makers.” Excellent facilities include science laboratories, a swimming-pool complex, a drama theatre and a modern sports precinct with an Astro turf. Full fee and admissions details are available directly from the school.
