St Catherine’s School is an independent Catholic co-educational day school in Parkhill Gardens, Germiston, on Johannesburg’s East Rand – and the oldest school in Germiston. Founded in 1908 by the Newcastle Dominican Sisters under Mother Rose Niland to educate the children of the new mining town, it was the first convent school on the East Rand and the first high school in Germiston. Today it is a combined school educating boys and girls from Grade 000 through to Grade 12, and writes the IEB National Senior Certificate.

As a Catholic school, St Catherine’s nurtures a value system rooted in the Gospel, with Christ and the school Chapel at its heart, while warmly welcoming pupils of all faiths (it has educated children of all races since 1976). Its motto is Veritas (“Truth”). A small, family-oriented school of around 700 pupils, it is known for a caring, “home-away-from-home” atmosphere, small classes, dedicated academic support and competitive fees offering genuine value for money.

The school encourages every pupil towards a well-rounded education across academics, sport and culture. Sport includes soccer (with both boys’ and girls’ teams), cricket, tennis, netball, athletics and swimming, alongside a varied cultural and arts programme.

Recognised for the historical and architectural significance of its buildings, with a Johannesburg Heritage Foundation blue plaque awarded in 2021, the campus also features a modern STEAM Centre, opened in 2022, with an art studio, laboratories, a computer centre and a robotics and coding venue. Full fee and admissions details are available directly from the school.
