St Cyprian's School
St Cyprian’s School is an independent Anglican school for girls in Oranjezicht, Cape Town, set on a historic campus on the lower slopes of Table Mountain with sweeping views over the city. Founded in 1871 by the Rt Revd Robert Gray, the first Anglican Bishop of Cape Town (founder, too, of Bishops), it is one of the oldest girls’ schools in the country, educating girls from Grade 000 to Matric (ages 3 to 18) across its Pre-Preparatory, Preparatory and High schools – “three schools in one” – with full, weekly and short-term boarding available in the high school.
A values-driven, family school with strong Anglican links and a loyal alumnae body, St Cyprian’s aims to shape character, build knowledge and develop skills, preparing thoughtful, capable young women ready to lead. Academic excellence is central: the school follows the IEB curriculum, and since 2022 senior girls may choose between two equally valued streams – the IEB National Senior Certificate or the Cambridge International AS and A-Levels – supported by individual academic counselling. Results are stellar, with a 100% Bachelor’s pass every year, and the school is a member of the global G20 Schools Group and one of a handful eligible for the historic Diocesan College Rhodes Scholarship.
Co-curricular life is rich, spanning sport (athletics, hockey, netball, swimming, water polo, tennis, basketball and more), music, drama and the arts, alongside a strong social conscience – embodied in its satellite school, Umthombo Wolwazi, which empowers young women from underserved communities.
St Cyprian’s fees are at the premium end (recently around R88,000 to R185,000 a year, with boarding and Cambridge extra); full details are available directly from the school.
