The Capstone School
The Capstone School is an independent, progressive Christian school set on the beautiful Heatherbank Farm in the Walmer area of Gqeberha (Port Elizabeth) – a park-like campus in the heart of the city, housed in a historic homestead among giant fig trees, ponds and open meadows where pupils can garden, fish and learn through nature. Founded by Jacqui Zeelie, who first established Children’s World Pre-School in 1997, the school took its current form in 2016 when, at the request of parents, it expanded into primary education, relocating to its farm campus in 2017. It educates children from pre-primary through to Grade 7.
What sets Capstone apart is its approach: it follows the national CAPS curriculum but enriches it with a Reggio Emilia–inspired teaching philosophy, which sees every child as capable, competent and full of potential. Teachers create environments that invite extended exploration, problem-solving, cooperation and debate, often in small groups, and children progress at an individualised pace with continuous, non-intrusive assessment. Low pupil-to-teacher ratios ensure each child is known and nurtured.
Underpinned by a loving, Christian-centred ethos that emphasises shared values, respect and integrity, the school aims to be a “home away from home” where children are happy, loved and free to develop critical thinking, creativity and a genuine love of learning, well prepared for a dynamic future. Full fee and admissions details are available directly from the school.
