St David's Marist Inanda
St David’s Marist Inanda is one of South Africa’s most respected independent boys’ schools, set on a landscaped estate in the heart of Sandton, Johannesburg, with a second campus in neighbouring Alexandra. Founded by the Marist Brothers in 1941, it educates over 1,400 boys of all faiths from Grade 000 through to Matric, across a Junior Preparatory, Preparatory and College (high school), with weekly boarding offered to College boys.
As a Catholic, Marist school, St David’s is shaped by the values of its founder, St Marcellin Champagnat – humility, simplicity and modesty – and by a “family spirit” that runs through daily life, regular Mass in the school chapel, and an inclusive community that welcomes boys of every background and belief. Its motto, Confortare Esto Vir (“Take courage and be a man”), captures the school’s aim of forming well-rounded, principled young men, prepared through service and leadership to contribute to wider society.
Academically, St David’s follows the IEB curriculum and is known for strong, consistent matric results and a broad subject choice, supported by well-equipped classrooms, a large library and modern teaching technology. The school has a proud sporting tradition – rugby, cricket, hockey, water polo, swimming, basketball, tennis and athletics among them – with participation in extra-murals an expected part of school life. A rich cultural programme spans choir, music, drama and art, while community outreach and servant-leadership sit at the centre of the Marist approach.
Facilities include extensive grass sports fields, an Astroturf, tennis courts, a heated swimming pool, a chapel and comfortable, well-staffed boarding houses offering a genuine “home away from home.” A strong old boys’ network – whose alumni include Proteas cricket captain Temba Bavuma – keeps generations of Marist men connected to the school long after they leave.
