St Joseph's Marist College
St Joseph’s Marist College is an independent, Catholic, multicultural and fully co-educational school in Rondebosch, Cape Town, extending from pre-school (age 3) all the way to Matric. One of six Marist schools in South Africa, it traces its roots to the arrival of the Marist Brothers in Cape Town in 1867 and educates around 500 pupils in a warm, family atmosphere reflected in its beautiful buildings and grounds.
In the Marist tradition of its founder, St Marcellin Champagnat, the College provides an education that is academic, spiritual and morally formative, blending the pursuit of academic excellence, the heritage of Catholic education and the Marist charism. As a Catholic school it is guided by the educational mission of the Church while respecting religious diversity and welcoming a significant number of pupils from other traditions, cherishing each child for their uniqueness. Creative and critical thinking underpin all learning, and pupils are encouraged to develop beyond the curriculum, writing the National Senior Certificate at the end of Grade 12. Alongside mainstream classes, the College distinctively offers Montessori classes from Pre-Primary to Grade 6, and provides strong academic support – including small classes, mentoring, baseline assessments and help for children who learn differently.
Beyond the classroom, St Joseph’s offers a full range of sporting and cultural opportunities – from the sports field to the concert hall to the chapel – along with aftercare supervision in a nurturing environment. Recent fees are around R49,000 to R97,000 a year; full fee and admissions details are available directly from the school.
