Star College Bridgetown
Star College Bridgetown is an independent, English-medium school in Bridgetown, Athlone, Cape Town, established by the Horizon Educational Trust – part of a national network that also includes Star Colleges in Johannesburg, Pretoria, Durban and Sybrand Park. Primarily a boys’ school, it has built a strong reputation for academic excellence; its boys’ high school relocated to the Bridgetown campus in 2015, and the school caters for learners through its foundation, intermediate and high school phases, with around 380 pupils.
The school follows the national Department of Basic Education curriculum, with learners writing the National Senior Certificate, and places a particular emphasis on academic strength – producing excellent matric results and a notable focus on Mathematics, Science and Computer studies. From Grade 8 onwards, students are encouraged to compete in national and international Olympiads, with selected learners sent abroad to represent the school. Its 2022 matric class achieved a 100% pass rate with over 91% bachelor passes, placing it among the top-performing schools in the Western Cape.
Learning is supported by modern, technology-enabled classrooms – including hybrid teaching, Google Classroom and smart boards – with class sizes capped at around 26. The school goes to considerable lengths to help every boy succeed, offering free Saturday tuition, after-school intervention classes, study camps for matriculants and dedicated Olympiad training.
