The Wykeham Collegiate
The Wykeham Collegiate (TWC) is one of Africa’s leading independent Christian schools for girls, set in the suburb of Clarendon in Pietermaritzburg, KwaZulu-Natal. It was formed in 1990 through the amalgamation of two historic schools – Wykeham School, founded in 1905 by Mary Moore, and Girls’ Collegiate School, founded in 1878 by Mary Campbell – and its name combines the two. Today it educates around 740 girls from Grade RRR to Grade 12, offering both day schooling and boarding, with boarding available from Grade 3 (including a dedicated junior boarding house, Rose Ridge).
A Christian school built on the three tenets of “faith, hope and love,” TWC aims to prepare young women for the real world, encouraging them to believe in themselves, value their abilities and grow in balance – intellectually, emotionally, physically and spiritually. Its broad, progressive and holistic curriculum gives every girl the chance to discover and develop her own talents within a caring, stimulating environment.
Academically, the school writes the IEB examinations and achieves a 100% matric pass rate, offering subjects including French and isiZulu, and is one of only a few schools in South Africa to offer Sport and Exercise Science – through which girls also gain coaching and first-aid qualifications, supported by on-site specialists. Pupils enjoy state-of-the-art facilities, including an Indoor Sports Centre, an artificial hockey surface, science laboratories, a custom-built Music School and a Junior School technology centre, as well as international subject and cultural tours. Full fee and admissions details are available directly from the school.
