United Herzlia Schools
United Herzlia Schools is an independent Jewish community day-school group in Cape Town, educating children from pre-primary through to Grade 12 across multiple campuses in the City Bowl, Atlantic Seaboard and Southern Suburbs. The dream of a Jewish Day School in Cape Town came to life in 1940, and over the decades the school expanded into United Herzlia Schools as it is known today – with the Constantia and Milnerton campuses added in 1973, Weizmann Primary incorporated in 1976, the Middle School built in 1982, and the Hebrew Pre-Primary Schools joining in 2000. Its flagship campus, Herzlia High School in Vredehoek at the foot of Table Mountain, is home to a community of more than 2,000 pupils.
Herzlia is an independent Jewish day school with an open admissions policy: pupils from any background, including non-Jewish families, are welcome, while all pupils respect the school’s Jewish and Zionist ethos, study Hebrew until Grade 9 and Jewish Studies until Matric. Aligned to Orthodox Judaism, the school caters to Jewish pupils across the religious spectrum, and its values of Menschlichkeit and Yiddishkeit run through everything it does, supported by an inspiring Jewish Life & Learning programme.
Academically, Herzlia writes the National Senior Certificate, with additional subjects offered through the IEB (such as Further Studies Mathematics and English, and Hebrew), and has a strong reputation for excellent matric results. Its programme features Singapore Mathematics, ESTEAM, coding and robotics in hi-tech Innovation Centres and Makerspaces, integrated project-based learning, and a dedicated SEED (Supporting Educational & Emotional Development) department. Co-curricular life is rich, with water polo a flagship provincial-powerhouse sport, a world-class Esports centre, and a wide range of other sporting and cultural activities.
Fees are subsidised, and the school undertakes that no Jewish child will be turned away for genuine financial reasons; full fee and admissions details are available directly from the school.
