Western Province Preparatory School – known affectionately as “Wetpups” – is a leading independent Anglican preparatory school for boys in Claremont, Cape Town. Founded in 1914, it has more than a century of history educating boys from Grade N (pre-primary, age 4 turning 5) through to Grade 7 across its Pre-Prep, Junior Prep and Senior Prep phases, spread over two campuses in the southern suburbs.

Rooted in an Anglican foundation, the school’s values – respect, integrity, compassion, courage, humility and accountability – underpin school life, with chapel services part of its rhythm, while it warmly welcomes boys of all faiths and backgrounds. As a boys-only school, WPPS is committed to understanding the unique needs of boys, supporting their academic, emotional, physical and social development and helping them grow in confidence, resilience and self-discipline. Its vision is to awaken potential and inspire every boy to become “a solutionary for our tomorrow” – a young man of honour, service and courage.

Academically, small classes (with classroom assistants in the younger grades) allow individual attention, and a broad, evolving curriculum embraces project-based learning and specialist subject teaching in the senior grades to prepare boys for high school. A multi-disciplinary support team offers remedial, occupational-therapy, speech and counselling services.

Sport and culture are integral, with boys participating in sport from Grade 1, and the school offers boarding at Barlow House. Set in a warm, family atmosphere, WPPS also offers scholarships. Full fee and admissions details are available directly from the school.
