Imhoff Waldorf School
Imhoff Waldorf School is an independent, community-orientated Waldorf (Steiner) school set on Imhoff Farm in Kommetjie, on Cape Town’s South Peninsula – the southernmost Waldorf school in Africa, nestled among trees beside an animal farm in a rural setting that is rare so close to the city. It is the only Waldorf school in the South Peninsula, drawing around 235 children from communities including Kommetjie, Scarborough, Noordhoek, Fish Hoek, Masiphumelele, Ocean View, Glencairn, Simon’s Town and Muizenberg, and retaining the warm character of a small, family-orientated community school.
The school offers a full early-years and primary Waldorf journey – through its Parent & Child Circle, Toddler Group, Playgroup and Kindergarten, and a Primary School from Class 1 to Class 7. Founded on the philosophy of Rudolf Steiner, it provides a holistic, creative, “heart-based” education that nurtures creative, resilient and confident learners, supported by a low pupil-to-teacher ratio and a committed sponsorship programme that helps keep the school accessible.
A distinctive strength is its deep environmental ethos: the school runs largely off the grid on solar and wind energy, recycles its waste, conserves water and weaves environmental awareness – from biodiversity to climate change – through its curriculum and community projects. Drawing constantly on the wonder of nature, Imhoff inspires respect for truth, beauty and the living world. Full fee and admissions details are available directly from the school.
