Lycee Francais du Cap
The Lycée Français du Cap (also known as the Lycée Français International du Cap or Cape Town French School) is a private, co-educational French international school offering a bilingual education to students from age 2 to 18. Initiated in the mid-1980s by French families in Cape Town and formally established soon after, it operates across two campuses: a primary school in Sea Point and a middle and high school (collège and lycée) in Hope Street, Gardens. The school serves a diverse community of around 350 to 390 students from more than 30 nationalities – a large share of them South African or non-French – making multiculturalism central to its character.
As a member of the AEFE network – the Agency for French Education Abroad, which links some 600 French schools in around 140 countries – the school follows the French national curriculum, ensuring smooth transfers for internationally mobile families. Teaching is bilingual, organised partly in French and partly in English, with Spanish and German also offered. Students work towards internationally recognised diplomas: the Diplôme National du Brevet at the end of Grade 9 and the French Baccalauréat at the end of Grade 12, with British International Section, Cambridge International and Baccalauréat Français International (BFI) options also available. Results are excellent, with a 100% pass rate with honours in the 2025 bac.
Run by a parents’ association and supported by the French government, the school offers strong language support in French and English at no extra charge, alongside facilities including libraries, auditoriums, science laboratories, and sports pitches and halls. Fees are subsidised by the French government, with some bursaries available; full fee and admissions details are available directly from the school.
