Michael Mount Waldorf School is a private, non-profit, co-educational Waldorf (Steiner) day school in Bryanston, Johannesburg, founded in 1960 – one of the longest-established of the registered Waldorf schools in Southern Africa. Set on a leafy campus at 40 Culross Road (shared with the well-known Bryanston Organic Market), it offers a mainstream private education for around 450 children from Baby Care through to Matric, writing the IEB National Senior Certificate.

The school follows the internationally recognised Waldorf curriculum – a holistic, developmentally attuned approach that weaves academic subjects together with artistic, musical, dramatic and practical activities, engaging “head, heart and hands.” Core subjects are taught in immersive multi-week “main lessons,” and the curriculum (used up to Class 11, alongside the South African national curriculum) is broad and experiential yet academically rigorous. Classes average around 22 pupils for focused, individual attention, and learning support includes Waldorf extra lessons, Integrated Learning Therapy and Curative Eurythmy.

Academically the school has maintained a 100% IEB matric pass rate since its first matric class in 1987. Sport is approached inclusively in the Waldorf spirit – there are no try-outs and every team member plays – alongside a regular physical-education programme and a rich arts and crafts offering. The student body is notably diverse, spanning many languages, cultures and socio-economic backgrounds.

Recent annual fees range from roughly R75,000 to R150,000 depending on phase; full fee and admissions details are available directly from the school.
